Paradis Latin Cabaret Night Show in Paris
This phenomenal theater can be found within the heart of the Latin Quarter in Paris. This area is quite well-known for it’s party vibe amongst college students, although that doesn’t mean that everyone cannot enjoy themselves when they are there.
The Paradis Latin has quite the cultural history, having been in existence since 1889. This spectacular theater was constructed where ruins of the Theater Latin once lay right next to the fabulous Notre Dame. At the time of its conception and construction, the Universal Exhibition of 1889 was getting closer and everyone believed that a magnificent theater would look much better than a pile of rubble.
The new theater opened its doors on January 20, 1889, and every show instantly sold out. Over the years, extraordinary shows and ballets have been performed, but the theater did fall on hard times and was forced to close time and time again.
A new owner emerged in 1973 and the theater reopened with the show Paris Paradis on November 14, 1977. It was a burlesque show that was successful night after night. Champagne premiered in 1984 and Hello Paradis, Viva Paradis in 1987. After twenty years, in 1995, there had been approximately two million ticketholders viewing six shows and more than one thousand six hundred performances.
The current show is Paradis al la Folie and thirty-five dancers perform fifteen numbers with two different international attractions. The pearls and feathers on the costumes can be seen in explicit detail from every seat and the stage sets look quite real. This show is one hour and forty-five minutes in length and it is full of old-time nostalgia. Guests of all ages love it, either because they lived through those entertaining years or the entertainment is just that marvelous.
While it is possible for anyone to go and just enjoy this show, most people choose to partake in the delicious dinner that is served with it. Dinner begins at eight in the evening, followed by the show at half past nine and the grand finale at eleven.
There are three different menus for guests to choose from including the Festival Menu, Star Menu, and Prestige Menu. On the Festival Menu everyone receives their choice of shrimp in a puff pastry or a perigourdine salad followed by either chicken fricassee or a salmon filet. Bordeaux wine or champagne, as well as ice cream, rounds out the meal.
The Star Menu begins with a selection of either foie gras toasted brioche, smoked salmon, or Burgundy snails. The main course offers a roasted sea bream fillet, beef chateaubriand, or duck breast. The Bordeaux wine and champagne complement the meal as well as the choice of apple tart or sorbet symphony for dessert.
Crab petals or sea bream tartar are the appetizers for the Prestige Menu followed by a selection of either roasted lamb loin, cod filet, or beef tournedos Rossini. Dessert is the delectable Paradis Latin or iced nougat. Bordeaux wine or champagne is served with this menu as well.
Those who do not want to visit the Paradis Latin for a meal may want to choose the champagne and show option instead. There is also a lunch and show option available, which is perfect for those who do not like to stay out later at night. Special evenings are held throughout the year including Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day. There are special menus on those evenings and each one uses the theme of the evening.
Some guests are so caught up in all the dancing, especially the French Cancan, that they decide that they need to learn how to do all the moves. Thankfully, the Paradis Latin offers a French Cancan workshop once a month. Registered guests need to arrive shortly before six in the evening to meet with the dancers before proceeding to the dressing room to put a skirt over their leggings. The warm-ups begin at a quarter past six and the real fun begins at half past the hour. By half-past seven, everyone is an expert and they all meet at the bar for a celebratory drink and to receive their diplomas.
