Moldova spent many years under the rule of the Soviet Union and Romania before finally becoming an independent country back in 1991. The economy of Moldova may not be as good as the countries that surround it, but that doesnÕt mean that travelers should ignore the charm and beauty that can be found there.
Here are the top 4 amazing attractions and museums in Moldova:
1. National Museum of History of Moldova
This museum was established in 1983, although at that time it was under a different name since the country was not independent at that time. There are more than three hundred thousand items within this museum, but only so many can be displayed at once. There are fifteen exhibits on display each year, which means everyone will see something new each time they visit. Guests will love how everything is displayed into categories that include Medieval History, Ancient History and Archaeology, Contemporary History, Treasures, and the History of Basarabia.
2. Orheiul Vechi
Orheiul Vechi, or Old Orhei as the locals call it, is the most popular attraction within this country. It is an archaeological complex that is comprised of numerous ancient buildings and monuments from the 10th century B.C. through the 14th century A.D. Travelers can walk around the entire complex on their own, but they will want to visit the museum to learn more about what they are seeing.
3. Tipova Monastery
The Tipova Monastery was created by digging out rocks along the banks of the Dniestr River and all three complexes were completed at different times. The Church of the Feast of the Holy Cross goes back to the 11th century and the Church of St. Nicholas wasnÕt carved until sometime during the 14th and 15th centuries. The third complex appeared at some point between the 16th and 18th centuries, and while the entire area is beautiful, many visitors will find themselves mesmerized the most by the riverÕs waterfalls.
4. Soroca Fort
This fort was originally constructed using wood, but between 1543 and 1546, it was completely rebuilt using stone. At that time, the shape of the fort was changed, giving it a curved shape that would protect those inside even more. This is the only medieval attraction within Moldova that has been carefully preserved and kept exactly as it was when it was constructed.
Travelers will find themselves fascinated with the true beauty of this country, as so much of the countryside has been left untouched over the years. However, at the same time, certain items have been preserved to ensure that future generations can see them as they were, instead of the ruins that they could have become.
