For many travellers planning a trip to Australia, Brisbane is famous for being the start of the end of the famous Brisbane to Sydney East Coast road trip. If you’re lucky to spend a few days in the city, here’s a list of the activities you shouldn’t miss.

 

1.    Visit South Bank

South Bank may be the most iconic place in Brisbane. There’s something for everyone there. You can choose to relax on the beach next to the lagoons right in front of the city skyscrapers. If you don’t like city views, there’s a small boardwalk to take you into the rainforest. Not into outdoor activities? You’ll find some of Brisbane’s best museums in South Bank: the QAGOMA on one end or the Maritime Museum on the other end. Or you could just choose to try one of the many restaurants in the area.

 

2.    Cruise the Brisbane River

Brisbane River goes across the city and offers some of the best views of Brisbane. The best way for tourists to enjoy a cruise on the Brisbane River is to board a free City Hopper boat. The small red catamaran will slowly take visitors along the river and stop at the popular areas.

 

3.    Climb Kangaroo Point cliffs

Where else in the world can you find natural cliffs in front of the CBD? Having that in Brisbane is fantastic. You can abseil or climb Kangaroo Point Cliffs to get adrenaline while experiencing great views of Brisbane. If climbing is not your thing, you can have a barbecue or sit at the café at the top of the cliffs.

 

4.    Visit Brisbane Town Hall

There are three good reasons to visit Brisbane Town Hall. First, you can climb to the tower and get a unique view of Brisbane from the heart of the CBD. Second, the museum has fascinating information about the history of the city. Third, it’s free!

 

5.    Have a stroll in the City Botanic Garden

Brisbane City Botanic Garden is a fantastic green patch next to the CBD and the river. You will find there massive fig trees that are worth the detour. It’s also the start of the river boardwalk. It will take you to the Eagle Street Pier, an excellent spot to have drink or food with beautiful views of the Story Bridge.

6.    Take a Brisbane Greeters walk

Is there a better way to experience the city than by following a local? The Brisbane Greeters volunteer to share their love of Brisbane with visitors. It’s a fantastic opportunity, and it’s free!

 

7.    Climb the Story Bridge

Some will find the climb up to the top of the Story Bridge challenging. But it’s gratifying as you get splendid views of Brisbane CBD and its surroundings.

 

8.    Enjoy a birds-eye view of the city at Mount Coo-Tha

There is no better view of Brisbane than from the Mount Coo-Tha Lookout. From up there, you dominate the city. On a good day, you can view the ocean and the mountains in the background. It’s a perfect spot to watch the full moon rise.

 

9.    Visit a brewery

You understand early in your visit the importance of beer in Australia. The XXXX beer is an icon in Queensland, and the brewery in Milton is open to tourists for tours and tastings. But if you want a more interesting beer, try the micro-breweries in Newstead instead.

 

10.    Go for a day trip

Brisbane is a lovely city, but the best part of it is the variety of the day trips available in the region. There is something to please everyone, from romantic getaways to adventures into the wild. Just to name a few, check out Stradbroke Island, Moreton Island, Springbrook National Park and Lamington National Park!
