Along the Spaarndammerplantsoen in Amsterdam, three monumental public housing complexes are designed by famous architect Michel de Klerk. The most expressionistic block is nicknamed The Ship and belongs to the top of the Amsterdam School architectural movement of the early twentieth century. The unconventional building exudes an air of festivity and is a true scultpure of bright orange bricks.The Ship is still inhabited and the museum is located in different parts of the building:

Main location museum

The Museum is located at Oostzaanstraat 45. Here you can find the front desk, museum shop, lunchroom and several exhibits, which you can visit by your self:
The first floor houses the large permanent exhibition ‘Amsterdam School Constructed ideals’. Visitors will experience vividly what it is like to be surrounded with the skills, inspiration and imaginative splendor of the Amsterdam School. Read more…

Guided tours to other parts of the museum

Additionally, every hour a guided tour (often in Dutch) leads around the building, to visit three other parts of the museum: The interior Michel de Klerk designed for the former postoffice in The Ship, a replica of a 19th-century slum dwelling and an original museum apartment with ’20s interior in The Ship. at 15hours we guarantee an English guided tour. Groups above 10 persons can always make a reservation for an extra guided tour. During the day we do the Dutch tour also bi-lingual if possible.
